Alcoholics Anonymous pioneered the Twelve Step approach. It is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.
Whereas the only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking, the fellowship's literature, and in particular, the book 'Alcoholics Anonymous' (also known as the Big Book), is very helpful in studying the Steps. It describes the nature of powerlessness, how to deal with life's challenges without sinking into unhealthy behavior, and taking inventory on our emotions.
